Live sports scores coming to iPhone using Live Activities with iOS 16.1

I still don’t get it ! do you actually need to be connected to a television via a tv app to get this ? and at what range does it work ? Or can you just use the app to get a running update ? ( I’m sure someone else must do that !! )

The way I understand, it’s the latter. When you tap to “follow”, it will give you “live” updates on your Home Screen.
