• iPhone 15 : The iPhone 15 makes up for a disappointing iPhone 14. Here's all the details.
    • iPhone 15 Pro: Going beyond the Dynamic Island, Apple's pro smartphone goes big on gaming.
    • iPhone 15 Pro Max: That periscope camera makes its debut on Apple's most-premium handset.
    • Apple Watch Series 9: With a new chip teased, it proves just an iterative year for Apple's long-standing wearable.
    • Apple Watch Ultra 2: Another modest update for Apple's top-tier rugged wearable sequel.
    • iOS 17: Our favorite new iPhone software improvements, all in one place.
    • watchOS 10: A significant upgrade for Apple's Watch software makes even older Apple Watches feel new again.

Let the blame game begin!!!

After hours of trying both apple.com and att.com, I called Apple Store,,, the first 20 minutes it was either busy or telling me to call back.
Finally when I was placed on que and after 29 minutes waiting, the Apple rep answers and tells me "We cant help you with iphone 4 right now, due to the AT&T server crashing. Please try apple.com"

WTH!???
If the server is crashed then why send me to apple.com !???

:confused::mad:

Both AT&T and Apple's servers are getting hammered so hard, both are crashing. I've been trying since 7:00am EST and havn't successfully preordered yet.

It seems to be an ATT issue. Apple takes the initial information and then passes it to ATT for verification. That's where it fails.

I'm not so sure about that. My order went through AT&T the first try. Never could get it to go through Apple's site.

i can also understand a TON of people were hitting their servers up...but they are 2 HUGE companies...Apple being the wealthiest technology company in the world and yet their servers got pounded and bogged that fast?? seems weird to me. oh well im just glad its over.

I keep getting as far as entering my CC info and then I get a TIME OUT error. I'm done trying. Spent the last three hours doing so. I'm over it.

A couple of observations. There is one in queuing theory that says that if one is putting things on the queue faster than one is taking them off, disaster is just a matter of time. It is called being "behind the curve."

We have been hearing for a long time about the ability of "cloud computing" to help one deal with the kind of peak load that may arise from event like new product announcements or open enrollment periods. Since this load was easily anticipated, one would have expected AT&T to have sufficient capacity to handle it.

The problem has been going on for three hours with few successes suggesting that we are trying to fit an extra three ours of unsatisfied demand into three hours less capacity.

However, the retries are the really aggravating factor now. The load is increased dramatically by unsatisfied retries.

The problem appears to be getting worse, not better. Early in the day, the Apple servers seem to be working. The problem appeared when one tried to "check eligibility," i.e., get data from AT&T. At this point, the transaction seems to be failing at other points.
