I found that 12 South's Relaxed leather case is very similar to Apple's leather case.

But the leather is very smooth and scary to handle on the +. Any recommendations on scuffing up the leather to get grip?

I would not scuff it. You will damage the leather. Best thing you can do is use it. The more you use it the better it will become.

I hope so, I had the apple leather case on the 6 and it never Un-smoothed. I'm not opposed to low grit sandpaper, but I'll give it a week or two to break in and soften up.

I noticed my Apple leather cases to be much grippier by just using some leather cleaner conditioner on them ...

Scuff up a beautiful $50 Apple Leather case? Please. I have had the same experience as Not Quite Right with applying some leather cleaner/conditioner. It softens the leather just enough to give it a little better grip without damaging the leather itself.

You'll thank me later. :)

Oils on your skin should eventually make the case more grippy. It's only so "smooth" when it is brand new. That was my experience with the Apple leather case anyway...

Same here, having my 7+ and apple leather case since April, my case is much grippier now than when I first got it
