Used Pwnage earlier today and it worked perfectly. As far as I know it's the only way to jailbreak a 3G running 4.1 but I may be wrong.

I also used Pwnage on my 3G. It worked fine.

I think you can also use the latest redsn0w beta. I tried it a couple months ago but had problems with USB audio playback on my Alpine car stereo so I restored. I haven't found any problems after JBing with pwnage.
