Jail Breaking Iphone 3.1.2 ( IM new here )

Hello iphone users, recently i just bought a 16 gb black iphone 3GS from my friend. He didn't jail break it yet ( not sure if you can). I dont neeed it unlock, because its locked to my provider. I have a few questions as well..


1) What program do i use to jail break this iphone? Could anyone provide a link for turtorial as well?

2) I heard jail breaking 3.1.2 is unstable and really buggy?

3) i Still have warrenty, does it void my warrenty?

4) if i messed up, how do i reformat my phone back to orginial?

5) if i messed up, does it automatically update to 3.1.3, which i was told not to ever do

6)any tips/warnings i should be aware of when im jail breaking the iphone?

i got another question, im not sure if it is relevant or not but,
right now im at 3.1.2 and if i were to download the 3.1.3 version (just download) and shift + click the restore button to a pervious version of the iphone does that automatically restore my iphone to the pervious version everytime i restore it? or does it make it 3.1.3?
