iTunes verification code problem

I am trying to log into iTunes and I am stuck in a crazy loop.
I enter my Apple ID and password and then get the same log in screen with the following error:

“An Apple ID verification code is required to sign in. Type your password followed by the verification code shown on your other devices”.

Fields given to enter:
Apple ID / Password.

I see the verification code come to my iphone. I tap Allow and get the code. However the fields in itunes don't match.
There is No space for the verification code. I type in my Apple ID and password again and get stuck in this loop.
