Is Wifi a battery drainer or it's just normal?

Hello! This is my second question here. I've been using an IPhone for a couple days now and I really love it.
Coming from a Blackberry is/was hard but I'm getting used to it. Hoping I will be as quick to use the IPhone keyboard as I am to use my Berry keyboard real soon!

Question: Is the wifi a big battery drainer?

I charged my IPhone yesterday from 0 to 100, and I used the wifi on it since. (Sim is in the Blackberry)

I used it quite a lot I would say, to try things out, get apps and play games.
The battery is now at 34%

Is it normal?

Is there tricks I should know to save some battery life?

Thank you fellow IPhone lovers, and I'm glad to be part of your group now.

Well you have to remember the battery in your iPhone is not a super battery compared to the one in your blackberry (they are pretty much the same). Keep in mind that the iPhone does a lot more than a blackberry, starting with displaying your content on that large screen. Then there's all the GUI elements that are GPU-accelerated and those take a toll on the battery as well. And the things you're doing on your iPhone like web browsing or playing games, you wouldn't be doing as much on your blackberry.

So in short, your iPhone's battery will likely drain faster than a blackberry because of the things you're doing on it. For me I just use my iPhone all the time at home because I can charge it, but when I go out I am wary of how long I have to be out that day so I use it in moderation.

EDIT: Forgot to say, but Wifi uses less battery than 3G.

Try the following for keeping battery on the upper level..

First, Jailbreak your phone and download SBSettings. This will make toggling functions like radio for cell phone, bluetooth and wifi much faster and easier. When you're not using something, turn it off.

Second, turn off auto brightness, and select a comfortable level of brightness. I suggest just below half. Auto brightness will constantly be checking to see what kind of environment you're in and its just a drain on CPU and battery.

Third, turn off any EQ settings you have on. Those are big battery drainers. Buy better headphones if you need to have better sound quality.

Lastly, games are fun, but they kill your battery the fastest. Play them only when you're near a charging station, or if you don't care about the battery life.

Great suggestions all around. I might also add that you should check your email settings and determine what's best for you. Pushing everything instantly will, of course, drain more battery as well as fetching more frequently.

As others are saying, wifi in and of itself isn't a killer, but what you're doing while on wifi that will determine the battery drain.

Game? Big drain.
High screen brightness? Big drain
GPS usage? Big drain.

Wifi uses less battery than data over 3G, so when you have the option you can turn off 3G and save some battery that way.

Thank you for the great advices. Now excuse my ignorance but what is "EQ"?

I (he lol) did mean Equalizer.

Yes its set to off by default, but sometimes its set in certain songs, or users set it by accident.

Make sure its off :)
