Is there a way to track a stolen IPhone 6 Plus while in Airplane mode?

I've only had my IPhone 6 Plus a few months and it was stolen when I was on vacation. Since we were out of the country, I had my phone on airplane mode so I would not incur roaming charges. Is there another way of tracking my phone in airplane mode or can a refund be issued for the AppleCare I purchased that's no longer any good?

You will not be able to track it if it remains in Airplane Mode.

You can cancel your AppleCare+ at any time by simply contacting Apple and requesting cancellation/refund.
