Is there a way to clean up some storage space on my 64GB iPhone 6 Plus?

iMore Question

I have a 64 Gb 6 Plus and according to iTunes, I currently have 1.4 Gb of free space. And iTunes is telling me that i have 31 Gb used for Documents and Data. Is there a way to see what that 31 Gb is and then delete what is no longer necessary?

Settings → General → Storage & iCloud Use → Manage Storage

What does your phone say you have? Look in Settings > General > about.

Re: Clean up some storage space on my 64Gb 6 Plus

Songs: 1536
Videos: 75
Applications: 108
Capacity: 55.4 Gb
The phone doesn't give Gb usage for Songs, Videos, Apps.

iTunes gives the Gb break down.
Audio: 7.77 Gb
Photo: 5.95 Gb
Apps: 5.7 Gb
Books: 172 Kb
Docs: 30.99 Gb

Then it says
Free: 30.67 Gb while the phone itself now says Available: 1.5 Gb.
I only have a 64 Gb phone. So is it counting the iCloud free space too?

If you go to Settings > General > Storage & iCloud Usage choose the Manage Storage under Storage and you'll see the breakdown on your phone.

Does iTunes mention "other"? Documents and Data don't usually take much space. If it's "other", it can be deleted while connected to iTunes. iCloud storage is separate.
Restoring your phone as new might get rid of it. I would call Apple Support and see what they say.

I had to do a factory reset to clean up several GBs of "other", but that was a couple of years ago. Not very impressive that Apple still haven't fixed this problem.

It may have been "miscellaneous". For obvious reasons I no longer have iTunes installed on any computer so I can't check right now.

There is no "Other" or "Miscellaneous"

Maybe iTunes no longer shows this information. That would explain the behaviour seen by the OP. It would be really appalling if Apple has done this - huge amounts of users' storage seems to get eaten up by this "other" data.
