IMO it is still a very capable device, depends where the discussion is heading, I believe it is still a valid device if you get it on the low price point.

I have my iPhone 5S on the iOS 10.1 beta and it runs just as fast and snappy as ever. No problems here.

I liked the iPhone 5s for the short time I had it. I went to the SE really because of the back camera and more connectivity bands that I needed. Otherwise, it's a great device.

Personally for anyone purchasing, I'd recommend springing for the SE.

I think it depends on the person and how vital it is for them to have the newest device. Also, for people on T-Mobile in particular, I would probably recommend the SE over the 5s due to band 12. At the same time, though, I'm holding onto my 5s in case my mother might suddenly decide it's time for her to switch from her old Windows Phone (the Lumia 620, which of course doesn't even get LTE).
