Is My iPhone Unlocked?

1st off hello to all.

I just bought an iPhone 3G and was told it was unlocked. I am in the UK and using O2 uk sim. I tried to put T-Mobile UK sim in and it turns on and goes to the home page but no carrier is showing and I cant make or receive calls. Would a LOCKED iPhone do tjis or only one that is UNLOCKED. Thanks.

IF it is not reading the T-mobile sim sadly it is locked.

What baseband is your iPhone running?

ive just bought an iphone thinking it was unlocked, it turns out that some point the firmware was updated to the latest version 2.2.1, this in turn updates the modem version to 02.30.03 and the phoen cannot be unlocked at this time with this modem version.

The firmware can be downgraded again to say 2.2 but it does not downgrade the modem also and it would appear near impossible at the moment to get the old modem versionback again. Apparently all the newer iphones come with this modem version to stop them being unlocked (until dev team or someone sorts it out)
