Is it possible to delete photos from my iphone without deleting them from the icloud?

If so, what are the steps? The whole point of buying icloud storage was to free up space on my iphone without compromising existing photos. Thanks again!

iCloud storage is for back up purposes- not additional phone storage

You might want to consider a computer for long term storage rather than iCloud.
