3. Not really, if you have a backup device.

The cost of screen repair with AppleCare+ is $29 plus ~$100 a year.

The cost of NOT breaking your screen with AppleCare+ ~$100 a year.

For this article to be meaningful, you need to know the chance of breaking your phone in order to calculate the true expected cost.

I have AppleCare for my iMac. I dropped it and have a crack in the face. I don't normally notice it, but I'd be willing to spend the $100 to fix it, but I'm not willing to give up my computer for the time it would take to fix it.

poor article. insurance is all about making money. if one can afford to not have insurance, then do not have it. even with his years of experience at a genius bar, there is no mention of the units sold v. how many get broken. these empirical observations do not really deal with what the true sample size is, and therefore i am completely suspect of any conclusions done here.
