I have a 3G iPhone with 2.2.1 firmware and am following this guide.
theiphoneblog.com/2008/09/25/tipbs-jailbreaking-101-mac-edition

When I get the "ihaz Success!" screen, my iPhone hangs as if it is rebooting. It just shows the apple logo, and that's it. I know that it can take a while, but I have waited 20 minutes twice with the same result.

One thing that happens when the files are being transfered to my phone is that iTunes always starts up automatically and gives me the message that the phone is in recovery mode, and then the apple logo shows on my iPod. Could this be messing things up for me? If so, does any one know how to stop iTunes from doing this? If not, does anyone have any idea what's going on?

Restore the phone and jailbreak again before you have set it up or restored from back up.

Once the jailbreak is done then you can restore from a backup.

The phone hangs on the apple logo when trying to load all your apps. It works much better when the phone has nothing on it.

Your steps should be.

1. Put the phone in recovery mode.
2. Do a fresh restore (do not restore from back up or set up the phone as new.)
3. Quickpawn.
4. Restore from back or set up as new, whichever you prefer.

I did a restore in recovery mode, and still have problems.

I still am able to transfer the files from quickpwn. However, instead of hanging on the apple logo, it shows for a few minutes then shuts off instead of rebooting. When I start it back up, it's not jailbroken.

If it helps, this phone was previously jailbroken. I lost it when I updated to the 2.2.1 firmware, and now I am trying to re-jailbreak it. It's not working.

Should I try the pwnage tool instead?
