iphone locked when plugged into an accessory

I have a car integration unit. Whenver my iphone is plugged in, it'll go into accessory mode and not let me use the ipod controls. Prior to iphone 3.0, I was able to hold down the home button to kill accessory mode and use iphone ipod controls by reloading the ipod controls. Ever since version 3.0+, I have not been able to access the ipod controls to control my music when my iphone is plugged into the car integration unit. Does anyone know how I can get to the ipod controls when having the iphone plugged into an accessory?

If you're jailbroken there's an app in Cydia which gets rid of the restriction.

I use my iPhone with the Microsoft SYNC system in my 2009 Ford, and I am experiencing this same thing. It's quite annoying, and I would much rather control my music through the iPhone than trying to sort through the music using my stereos buttons. If you ever figure out a solution, please post up...I would love to fix this as well. Cheers.
