iPhone contact name changed without any action

[iMore Question]

My friend mentioned that on his iPhone my wife's name changed from "Sandra Smith" to
"Sandra was Smith" on his phone? Sadly I don't have a screenshot, but it's got him very paranoid.

Any explanation for this? Sandra got a new Apple Watch a few weeks ago if that affects anything.
