Iphone and Outlook

when you sync Iphone with outlook, is there a way to keep stuff private from your phone to Outlook? Palm used to do it by marking something private, but Windows mobile (when you mark as private) only makes it private on the network.. it still syncs with the machine. Help! Tnx.
