iPhone 6s or Plus and Whatsapp

I installed Whatsapp on my iPhone 6s Plus. It works great. My problem is that I have it set up to ring and to vibrate. Unfortunately it doesn't ring. Can someone help me figure out why?

Under notifications in whatsapp check to ensure you have not set notification sounds to <none>

whatsapp/settings/notifications/message notifications/sound/alert tones/none. Just above the default sound <Note>.
