iPhone 6 or iOS 8 SMS message and voice mail problem?

Scenario:

iPhone 6, v 8.02, Verizon, 2 - 3 bars LTE.

When I send SMS messages I get a not delivered error. Yesterday Verizon tech support said "SMS was turned off our end". Today I get that error with some messages getting delivered, some not.

I've also got two days where phone's got 3 bars LTE but no sign of a call and a voice mail alarm shows up long after the call.

The phone's been restarted, messages settings are send as SMS, basic troubleshooting done.

Try going to Settings - General - Reset and then selecting "Reset Network Settings" to see if things improve.

I suspected the network and proved it to Verizon when my daughter's iPhone 5 had same problem and both phones worked fine 5 miles from home.
