I installed whatsapp via appworld, it was free. I asked to install - but now it is no where to be found on my screen, where do I get it? Or is it even installed.

Use Spotlight search to make sure it's installed or go into the App Store application and search for Whatsapp. If it is installed then it'll say open beside the name.

I am a whatsapp fan!! and rayz336 reply was perfect. Go to the App Store, click on Search, then typed WhatsApp. you should one of three options, install, reinstall...the little cloud with a down arrow or Open.
