Hi there i have an iphone 4s bought from apple UK direct.

The earpiece was great when I got the phone on the UK release date.

Over time it seems to have lost it's volume.

I can barely hear people talking, they can hear me fine.

It has been jailbroken. :)

My warranty runs out soon so iI need to arrange a visit to Apple.

Question is?

How can I save my jailbreak setup and update to the latest firmware so I can take it into them?

Thanks in advance

Dan

The simple answer, no. You will have to restore the phone to unbroken state before going to Apple for warranty service. Even if they let you bring in jailbroken phones, it wouldn't matter anyway. They don't repair the phones, they swap it out.

To save your jailbreak state you'll want an app in Cydia called AptBackup. Once you use it, make you
backup on iTunes. That's important to do. To make that iTunes backup.

Now, restore your iPhone on iTunes and use iTunes to restore to the latest firmware 5.1.1

Once you get a new phone, restore the backup you made on iTunes. After that you'll want to jailbreak
again and get AptBackup and restore the backup you left on that server.

Note: There are more than one jailbreak backup apps in Cydia besides AptBackup. You'll want to Google
or search these forums for those other ones if you want different options.

I went thru this ordeal last week. My original IP4S was bought at launch day last year. My warranty expires in October 2012. I had my phone jailbroken and was too lazy to unjailbreak and then restore to go to genius bar. My speaker problem was becoming unbearable. I could barely hear people when on a call but they could hear me fine. So I decided to unjailbreak and restore like new from iTunes. Made an appointment at genius bar and I was there for 10 mins. They swapped my iPhone for a new one. I told them what was wrong they verified warranty and that's it. My new phone is great and running smoother thanmy previous one with many tweaks etc. I've decided to leave this stock. I kinda don't miss my the jailbreak at all. I'll wait for iOS 6 to drop and update. I also plan to upgrade to new iPhone 5 or whateva it's gonna be called.

Thanks very much guys.
Really appreciate the quick response.
I've done everything as mentioned.
AptBackup used.
Backup on itunes and latest version of ios installed.
I'm all booked into the genius bar this afternoon ready for my new phone.
Thanks again
Dan

Went into Apple today for my Genius bar Apt.

They checked it out, said it couldn't be fixed.

I walked out with a brand new one.

Can't fault apple for their customer service.

Fantastic.

For future reference I have PKGBackup which allows me to save a Sources and Tweaks that have been installed through Cydia and once you restore and re-jailbreak redownload the app and it will reinstall all Tweaks and Sources back to your device.

I dont believe it!
Had my replacement phone now for just under a month.
The same thing has happened but it's worse than before.
On Apple's site they no longer do the 32gb version.
Will they be able to replace it again?
The warranty runs out in october so i'll wait till after the 5 is released and try my luck for an upgrade 😝
