Iphone 4, notification states there are 2 unread emails

After further review, there are no unread emails. How do I turn off this notification of phantom emails?

Disable the toggle next to Mail in the Mail Settings and then reboot your iPhone. Afterwards, re-enable the toggle next to Mail.
