Iphone 4 extremely slow

My sister's iphone 4 is still on the latest version of ios 6. The phone is very slow and takes forever to launch apps like Facebook properly. Sometimes Facebook won't work at all for example. She's hesitant to update to ios 7 fearing it'll only further cripple her phone. Her phone still has plenty of memory available (6+ GB).

What is the best remedy? Do a complete wipe and remain on ios 6? Or just update to ios 7?

Any further reports of ios 7 on an iphone 4? Always heard horror stories about upgrading to the latest ios using the oldest supported device.

One of my sons have an iPhone 4 running iOS 7 and he loves it. He has yet to complain about speed and, to my knowledge, all of his apps and games works without any problems. Does your sister have a lot of social apps that may be updating via push notifications? If I were you, I'd have her go through EVERY setting as well as every app settings & options and make changes where its necessary. If push comes to shove, she can backup her device via iCloud or iTunes and then go to Settings>General>Reset and then select "Erase All Contents and Settings". By the way, how long has the device been running extremely slow for her? Before the official iOS 7 update or afterwards?

1. Backup all your data.
2. Force quit all the apps .
3. Restore the phone to factory settings.
4. then you can decide whether or not to have iOS 7. just by doing a factory reset you will see improvements in speed.

Thank you for the advice. I will do a backup and restore and keep it on ios 6 in the meantime. See how it works and figure it out from there.

If speed and performance is a concern, I would stick with iOS 6 or 5. I installed 7 and it's painfully slow now. I mean it was already pretty bad with iOS 6. Now I'm not saying its impossible to use with iOS 7, but I can definitely tell there is a bigger lag now when using the phone.
