iPad VERY strange Bluetooth situation!

Each time I try to connect my headphones via Bluetooth to my 2018 iPad Pro, it searches but doesn’t find them. As soon as I switch the Bluetooth on on my iPhone 7+ and select my headphones in the Bluetooth settings they connect to my iPhone and then automatically connect to my iPad also!
How is this even possible?
Why is this happening?
Why can’t I just connect my headphones to my iPad without first connecting to my iPhone?

My iPhone and iPad aren’t connected to each other, nor are they on the same iCloud account.

Really hope someone can help and thank you in advance.

Try this. Unpair from both your iPhone AND your iPad and then pair it to your iPad. Turn off the headphones and then turn it back on to see if it’ll autocorrect to the iPad. If so, great. Now go ahead and pair the headphones to your iPhone.
