iPad rookie - I plan to purchase an iPad

I am using an iPhone 4s and an interested in purchasing a iPad. I do not know anything about iPad's and have not had my iPhone very long. I am wondering if I need to get any certain model iPad to match up with my iPhone 4s ? My iPhone has iOS 6 and does it matter which OS I have in the iPad. I am subscribed to TracPhone and need to stay on OS6, and not allowed to upgrade.

it shouldn't matter- you won't be able to use hand off features but not a big deal. What you get really depends on your budget- I personally dislike purchasing things that have already been replaced with a newer model. I would look at either the iPad air or the newer iPad air 2
