iPad Pro says not compatible with my current iPad?

ipadpro says not compatible with my current ipad.

Old iPad has ios 9.2. iPad pro has 9.1. is this the reason I can't transfer my information from old iPad to new iPad pro?

Yes. You can't restore a backup from a newer version onto an older version. Upgrade the Pro and then you can use the old iPads backup.
