Ipad pro 11 not working with “non apple” USB-C to 3.5 mm jack adapter. Is it normal?

iMore Question

Hello everyone, I recently bought myself a new Ipad pro 11. The lack of the 3.5 mm jack is a real bummer for me but i was hoping that the new USB C port allowed me to use my old “non-apple” adapter, that by the way works completely fine with my android phone. Does anybody have the same issue? Do I have to get the stupidly expensive 10 bucks “official” one?

Welcome to iMore. While, the USB Type-C socket is still capable of transferring analog audio, Apple prefers to utilize digital to analog conversion in the adaptor dongle.
