Is newer always better? I think iPad would be good enough for me. Is thinner always better. I know I don't need another camera already what I need for that on my vzw iPhone 4. I would like to see the iPad1 with a lower price option.
With Apple then Newer is (almost?) always better because they tend to rely on fixed pricepoints with following generations being spec upgrades. So while you can find deals on older machines (Apple refurb), you really aren't saving that much over buying the newer current model.

BUT, if you really dont want the newest unit then there's going to be a flood of used iPads hitting ebay/craigslist once the iPad 2 is official.

They may do an iPhone route and offer the the first gen ipad 16GB for $100 less.

Bought a first gen today at walmart. I don't intend on opening or using until Wednesday afternoon. If the price drops I will get the difference back and be a happy camper. If the 2 completely replaces it then I will do a full out return. I just figured that if the price point does drop by 100 then these things will be hot cakes!
