After more than 15 years covering everything Apple, it’s with a heavy heart we announce that we will no longer be publishing new content on iMore and the iMore forums will be closing as of November 1st, 2024.
I don’t do betas, but I saw this post and almost lost my sh!t thinking iOS 18 was released then I realized you beta heads are the ones that (already) got the good good LOL
I’m impatiently waiting for the release
I’m on the release candidate. Has anyone else on RC and who also uses Apple TV and the Apple sports app noticed that live activities for your teams no longer work?
I have not noticed, but I know I’ll be watching the WNBA game between the Indiana Fever and Las Vegas Aces tonight around 7 PM. I’ll follow up with you later this evening.
So there’s an option in the Apple Sports app for the games you’re following that said open in Apple TV and then once that happened you would see the option in Apple TV to follow live. Then it would start a live activity in the dynamic Island. It used to do this automatically for my Detroit Tigers, but no longer does and the follow live option in the Apple TV app is no longer there.
In regard to Apple TV, I can confirm the follow live option is no longer visible, and I am not seeing live score in the Dynamic Island. The “Sports Alert” app still displays live score in the dynamic island.
Thanks for confirming. I have been using the “sports alert” app for years but like to try what Apple has to offer. Maybe the Apple sports app will offer live activities in the future.
How is iOS 18 RC running for you? How’s the battery?

Quick question about the betas, I've been running them on my phone and iPad since the public ones started. Just picked up a new iPad Pro though, if I do the setup where it scans the little swirly code on one device with the other will that cause it to automatically install the beta on the new device? Or do I need to log into the new device, skip setup, enroll/install the beta manually, then reset the new device and start the setup? The only other time I got myself in this situation was when the 11's came out and the x.1 beta came out before x.0 released. Back then you had to definitely get the new device onto the beta first but I don't know if that's changed in the last 5 years.
No I think that answers it, sounds like I'll need to get the new device on the beta first. I'm betting if I try to just do the scan option without that it will complain that the one device is on a newer OS. I know I definitely used to get that like back when I got one of the 11's and was still doing the local secure backup to my PC to get all the passwords etc. back on and not have to log back into everything again. Restoring the backup would tell you that the device needed to be updated first. The scan options allow for the transfer of account info, WiFi access, etcetera, onto the new device but I don’t recall it ever installing a beta version of iOS. In fact, it simply goes through the setup process with the operating system that’s already installed on it. Forgive me if I’ve misunderstood your question.

Thanks, I'm planning to use the scan option, but I'm assuming that will complain about it as wellOh yeah. If you’re attempting to restore a backup made while running a beta to a new device, you won’t be able to. As you’ve stated, the system would recognize the backed up data was created with a newer operating system.
