Per Apple Insider, ‘Apple has not said what the update entails, so it's likely a security or urgent bug fix that couldn't wait for the next expected refresh.’

This update appears to have fixed the brightness bug. Having the Always On option enabled was the workaround prior to today.

Has anyone noticed the excessive darkening of the Home Screen in this beta? Apple has done this before, but reduced it a lot a few years ago. Now it's worse than it ever has been. It appears to be part of the dark mode option for app icons. I do like the dark icons, but that dark screen though. It's making my wallpapers hard to see.

I know. Right? I don’t understand why the new dev beta 18.1 isn’t available for devices older than the iPhone 15, regardless of them being unable to use the Apple Intelligence feature.

Apparently, the only difference is the AI.
Do you have your home screen set to dark mode icons? If so, you may use a dark wallpaper, and don't notice the darkening. Here's what a white wallpaper looks like. Wallpaper on right.

Learning as I go along. You have tap the little sun icon to keep light screen with dark icons.
