iOS 11 b1 and Maps on CarPlay

Just thought I'd give anyone considering and or who recently installed the iOS 11 beta 1 a heads up on issues with Maps on Apple CarPlay. The general functions of CarPlay work overall OK, but when you try to use Maps, it will randomly and unexpectedly crash and go back to the main CarPlay home screen. I tried a variety of different settings to see if I could pinpoint which one is causing the issue (I thought maybe the new "Speed Limit" feature was the culprit, since it's the only new and fairly big update to Maps) but none worked. I did an update install from iOS 10, a fresh restore using the reset once in iOS 11, and a fresh install using iTunes. I also attempted a fresh install of iOS 10 and then updating to 11, no dice. So if you need Maps in your car, steer clear of at least b1 to avoid any issues. Maybe things will get worked out on b2. If anyone has had this issue and knows of a fix or a culprit, feel free to share.

And a side note, yes I know it's a beta and there's bugs, this isn't my first foray with an Apple iOS beta. I just thought I'd give people the heads up.

Thanks for the heads-up. I’ll test out the Maps function via CarPlay later today when I’m out riding around again to see if I get the same results.

So are you saying the speed limit does show up in maps on the cars screen in carplay? Is there any new features? Did lane guidance show up?

I tested the Maps app (turn by turn navigation) earlier this afternoon, and it crashed on my infotainment display. The voice directions continued to play and the turn by turn arrows displayed properly via my Watch, but the infotainment was stuck displaying the map and a non moving arrow. I’m going to try again momentarily.
