iTunes: Need to split up library into 2: One internal + One external

I got a new MacBook Air, that means that I now have only 1/3 of internal data storage (of my old/original internal HD). I bought a 256GB USB 3.0 and want to leave 4 of my original "Playlist" on the new internal HD (MacAir) and the other 8 Playlists on the external USB stick. How can I split up my 9000 song library, based only on Playlist content and not individual tracks (many of which I don't know by name or artist)? Is there any iTunes managing/archiving software or can I backup by "Playlist"?
