iMessages on iPod 5 won't show up as banners. What should I do?

My iMesaages have been set to banner mode on settings,but the messages still don't come as banners?!
What's should I do?

Only the 'alert' for iMessages appear as a banner at the top of the screen, not the entire iMessage.
