iMessage isn't working for one contact?

I noticed I am no longer texting a friend with iMessage but now with text messages and he still has an iPhone and haven't turned it off

It's possible that your friend has opted to disable iMessage in the settings.

If you send your friend an iMessage and it is green, he/she may have the phone powered off, or the battery is dead.
