iMessage icon badge on iPhone won't go away, any ideas?

iMessage icon badge on iPhone won't go away

iMessage on iPhone 6S shows 102 unread messages which there aren't. I have tried closing the app, resetting the phone, toggling the badge icon off and on but nothing works. It still shows the badge. Any ideas?

Welcome to iMore! Try going to Settings > iMessage, then logging out and back in again.

Did not work. I have tried everything I can think of but the app badge still shows 102 no matter what I do other than just turning off the icon badge.

What happens when you disable badge app icons in notifications for iMessages and enable it back?

Logout out of iMessage and then reboot your iPhone. Afterwards, log back in to iMessage.
