I'm No longer an iOS Developer - Can I still Update to iOS 8 beta 6/ GM?

iMore Question

My Apple iOS Developer Account expired on Monday and, for various reasons, I haven't bothered to renew it. My iPad is currently running iOS 8 beta 5. Will I be able to upgrade to beta 6 and/ or GM when released or will it refuse to recognize it? (ie will i need to wait for the public release)?? Any advise greatly appreciated.

Welcome to iMore! I wish I knew the answer to your predicament. Are you not able to renew? Could you call Apple or iTunes and ask? Maybe someone with knowledge of this will come along. Good luck!

The GM doesn't check for a dev acct since it is the same as the public release. The betas I'm not sure. My guess is that OTA may work, but a full restore to the next beta would not work. But I don't know.

If you update your device via OTA or iTunes or restore it to the iOS 8 beta after your dev account is expired the device will fail to activate.
