If I have paid my iPhone 6 off do I have to trade it in to get the iPhone 7

I pre ordered the new iPhone 7 and they said I had to send my old phone back but I've already paid it off. I used the 24 month next plan to pay it off

Welcome to iMore! Who did you buy your iPhone 6 from? Your carrier? If that's the case it depends on what type of promotion they're offering. If you already paid off your 24 month plan I'm not sure why they would expect your old phone back.

If you paid it off from AT&T you get to keep your phone, I know that for sure.
