If I buy a new iPhone from the Apple Store app, can I use it as my upgrade on my Verizon plan?

I want to avoid having to go into my local Verizon store, since every time family members of mine have gone in, the Verizon employees have pushed Android phones to the point of almost not sell them an iPhone, so if I use the Apple Store app to buy a new phone, can I count it as my upgrade on my plan? (Thanks for any help you can give me.)

The app should give you the option of using Verizon if you're logged in with your Apple ID. At least that was my experience.

The app will ask you to choose your provider and then it goes out and checks when you are available to receive an upgrade.

I usually buy my phones straight from Apple but one time I went to Verizon with my son because he wanted an iPhone. I went in prepared and right from the start said we wanted an iPhone, no discussion needed. I said it very politely and we had no problem getting his iPhone.
