if all my devices are synced, why do I still have to delete my e-mails individually in each device

I am having trouble with my e-mail account. I have an apple phone, I-pad, laptop & work desk top all synced together for the e-mail, but it will not allow me to delete e-mails from ALL the devices from 1 single device IE if I delete an e-mail from my phone, I then have to go back to the other 3 devices to delete that e-mail

What type of email?

Is it using POP3? IMAP?
