iCloud photos or manual transfer. Migrant Assistant (Manual Transfer) or iCloud

iMore Question

Hello,

I have 2TB of iCloud storage, I am using about 300gb and starting to fill it up more with more than just photos/videos. Photos/video are the most import in this transition.

I have a new Mac and always like to start fresh vs restore from backup, or a complete migrate. I like to pick and chose what goes on the new computer.

Is it better to transfers photo library manually or login in to iCloud and let it do it's thing?

Rephrased question: Will there be an issue if I transfer manually then log in to iCloud. Will I be chasing duplicates, etc. I have slow internet at home and don't want to wait days to download something I could do local.

I’d just login to iCloud and let iCloud Photo Library do the syncing.

If you do it manually, you will most definitely have to chase duplicates.
