iCloud backup

A little confused. Typically Apple gives everyone about 5GB of free iCloud storage.

So, if I have about 15-20GB of data (Music, Films, photos, etc.) on my iPhone 6s Plus, and back it up to the cloud, wouldn't\shouldn't it fail due to lack of storage space?

That's always my concern, hence why I always backup to my computer.

If you run out of iCloud storage space your backup won't fail but your device will stop backing up items.

Music isn't backed up to iCloud so it doesn't count. Not sure what you mean by "Films" but if those are iTunes purchases, they don't count either.

Apps don't count either. Only app documents and data.
I have 270 downloaded apps and have 3.3 gb of my free 5 gb available!

Correct! The theory is you can always re-download apps, etc. but photos, notes, etc should be saved and backed up.
