I was forced to do a system restore on my iPhone 5S and lost all my media

When i was updating my iPhone 5S to OS 8, the install crashed and gave me the black screen with a Red itunes logo and a power cord showing.
I held down the home button and plugged it in to the iTunes and Mac Book, and the upgrade finally completed, is there any way to retrieve the lost videos and contacts???? It was all my kids stuff and we are devastated.

Not unless they're backed up. Did you have iCloud backup enabled on your iPhone 5S before you did the restore? If so, then all you have to do is erase all contents and settings and then restore from an iCloud backup when prompted. In regard to your contacts, if they are associated with an email service then yeah, just configure the email account on your phone. The contacts will syncs to it.

Restore a backup from iTunes or iCloud if you have them.
