iMore Question

I upgraded to Yosemite on a Late '09 i7 MBP, but Handbrake no longer produces usable files. It is the latest version of HB. Can I still downgrade to Mavericks?

I had trouble with a Mavericks drive (some malware was trying to change all my search engines and was grinding the machine to a halt). I had to restore it from the recovery drive. It only gave me the option of Yosemite, but I'm not sure it's right for me. I think I'm starting to hit the upper levels of what this machine is capable if, especially if it cannot make good files from Handbrake.

I was going for a clean start, but I cannot use Handbrake any more on my main computer. Any way I can get back to Mavericks from recovery or some other source?

I don't think your problem has anything to do with your hardware. Do you know if Handbrake is compatible with OS X Yosemite?
