I set up my new iPhone over the air. Why can't I sync to iTunes w/o erasing my setup?

Years ago, Apple made it possible to set up new iOS devices without having to use a computer. I did this with my new iPhone 6s Plus.

Now, I'd like to sync with iTunes to add media and other content, but when I connect the phone to my 2015 13" MacBook Pro, iTunes offers only 2 choices; to set up as a new device, or restore from back up.

I don't want to undo the setup work already done. Is there another option?

In this instance, if you select to set up as new, iTunes is not going to erase your device.
