I know this probably sounds stupid but How do I add pics to my icloud?

Under my Photo tab on my phone I have the "cloud" symbol and was adding there but don't know how to organize or even if everything is actually saving there????

The "cloud symbol" is not iCloud. It is for photo albums that you share with others.

Click on it and then click the plus sign to create a new shared album.
