i have an obsolete macbook that no longer syncs with my ipad since last updating the ipad

i have an obsolete macbook (2008) os 10.5.8 with itunes 10.6.3 that no longer syncs with my ipad since i last updated the ipad (8.3). the ipad is waiting on yet another update which i'm loathe to do, for fear of going from bad to worse here. (btb, your website is the first i've heard of my apple safari 5 being outta date too)

I'm not sure I understand. If you updated your iPad to 8.3 already, what update are you trying to install?
