Thank you for the advice. Would that be an expensive upgrade? Do I get it at the Apple store?

Order the parts on Amazon and do it at home.

It really depends how large of a SSD you want. If you can make due with a smaller size (250gb) then the total upgrade can be done for under $150

$15 - 3 in 1 USB 2.0 To SATA / IDE Adapter Cable + Power Cord https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001OOT80...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUimUvbUpU2928205

$109 - Samsung 850 EVO 250GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-75E250B/AM) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OAJ412...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUimUvbUpU2928205

I put a crucial 500gb ssd in my wife's MacBook Pro 2012 and a 500gb Samsung 850 evo ssd in my PS4 . I have had ZERO issues with either of them. Its been over two yrs.

One other thought--check out OWC (Other World Computing), https://forums.imore.com/e?link=htt...20Pro%2013%20inch%20Mid%202010&token=d6tEXLXU

That link is for upgrades to the 2010 MB Pro 13".

I've bought HDs and memory from them--very easy to deal with--and they are there to support you by phone if you have any problems with installing the parts. I think their prices are competitive with those on Amazon--maybe $20 more for the same size SSD--but the support is there, and you can be sure about compatibility.

They also have the tool kits needed as well.
