I bought a time machine on September 12. disk is defective. Am I covered,

Kept getting message that time machine could not locate disk... hints were that I needed to fix network connection. Defective disk message first appeared a few days ago, although it may have been the problem all along and I was trying to fix the wrong thing. It was pu chase with a Visa card transaction that shows on th statement wth a 9/2 date.

You could possibly try Factory Resetting the machine. That might work. If you have warranty, check that out as well.
