How to use Apple TV on iPad without internet to view downloaded movies?

Tried to view downloaded movies while flying using Apple TV icon and could not access them. Message popped up that I was not connected to the internet. With the old "Video" icon that I had before TV, I could watch all downloaded iTune movies without the internet. On a business trip now and can't seem to find a standard player to watch the downloaded movies I purchased from iTunes. Thanks for reading this.

Open TV app...select library tab at the bottom...tap Downloaded...select what's stored on your iPad...

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, this only works with a wifi connection. Without wifi, like on a plane, all I get is an error that that app is not available.

VLC Player and Readdle's Documents are worth looking at. You'll need the movies as files.

Thank you - I will look at this. I have discovered that if you keep the TV app open while on a wifi connection, you can later access your downloaded movies without a wifi connection. However, if you close the tv app you cannot reopen it until you have a wifi connection again.

Apple needs to fix TV or make the old "Video" app available as a download.
