Although, it is possible to transfer images using iTunes but there are risks of losing images with this utility. This is because iTunes hangs in mid of the transfer process and this results in loss of the files getting transferred at that time..

Thank for the explain and the link. Finally to find out a solution

need to transfer pics from iphone to mac computer. need help please

Open iPhoto app on your Mac... connect the iPhone to the Mac via USB cable... the phone will show up on the left side of the iPhoto window... and the pictures on it will be on the right side of the app window - you can select the ones you want to import, or all of them - and they will copy into iPhoto and store on your mac... you can then chose to delete them on the phone if desired... iPhoto will also facilitate iCloud photo sharing... and Facebook too.

You could use the iPhoto and Photo Stream, just turn to Massie's post and "If you have a Mac" section.
Besides, FYI, after your photos have been imported from your Camera Roll or Saved Photos, you can use iTunes to sync them back to your device.

Here's step by step on How to transfer pictures from iPhone to Mac:
1.Connect your iphone to your Mac.
2.Once your iphone is detected, open iTunes and select the "Photos" tab. Check the "Sync Photos" box at the top.
3.From the drop-down menu, select the program or folder that contains the photos you want to transfer.
4.Select the photos you want to transfer and drag them to your Mac.
You can always rely on Apple's Support.

You are absolutely corect. I had not even considered Preview. Worked flawlessly while iphoto was continually returning errors. We are talking 1100 photos.
Thank you
